Being fired is hard enough, but being fired for an unlawful reason is wrong.
If you have been fired or believe you are about to be fired, Rich can help you navigate through this.
In North Carolina, an employer has the right to discharge an employee for almost any reason, unless it violates an established public policy of the State. As part of this public policy, employers do not have the right to terminate an employee because of the employee’s sex, race/color, national origin, disability, age or religion. Also, an employer generally may not terminate an employee for refusing to violate the law.
Other examples of unlawful employment termination:
• Testifying truthfully in court.
• Serving on a jury.
• Filing a workers’ compensation claim.
• Reporting violations of health and safety laws or wage and hour laws.
